China will optimise its financial markets system to become the globalcommodity price centre, an official from the China SecuritiesRegulatory Commission (CSRC) told delegates at the ShanghaiDerivatives Market Forum on Wednesday May 25.“China is world’s largest consumer for most commodity products,while the global commodity price power has shifted from producersand traders to futures markets,” Fang Xinghai, vice chairman of CSRC,said at the forum. “As the largest consumer, if this futures price is inChina, we will have more influence on prices, and our companiesand investors will have a better understanding of price trends andhedges in advance.”
