摘要

The National Research Institute for Metals of the Science and Technology Agency, and Shinagawa Refractories Co Ltd. both of Japan, have jointly developed a system for manufacturing metals with superfine, uniform crystal structures by applying ultrasonic vibration to molten metal prior to solidification. Previously, systems were available for irradiating ultrasonic waves indirectly by oscillating the casting moulds - but now a system for direct transmission of ultrasonic waves on to metals has been developed. This is made of high-strength ceramic that resists reaction or corrosion even when in contact with high-temperature molten metals. The new system is said to be highly convenient for improving the qualities and performances of various kinds of alloys.
