The software permits seeing how to fixture the part, hold the part and avoid collisions without cutting metalApplied Engineering Inc. of Yankton, South Dakota is an established machine shop that serves manufacturers in aerospace, communications, defense and medical equipment industries. The company applies the skills of 80 people to the high-speed machining of aluminum solids solids-hogouts. Like most regional shops, learning how to succeed in the "New Economy" posed significant challenges that the company concluded could best be overcome by investment in two areas: automation and technology At a time when shops of all sizes face similar challenges, the recent experiences of Applied Engineering may provide a good road map to follow.
