MACHINING, welding, casting and EDM underpin many industries including aerospace, medical equipment, automotive, heavy equipment, power generation. The evolution of these processes brings ever-increasing technological sophistication to the plant floor and to quality assurance. A common QA practice for parts and components - visual inspection - generally remains relatively low-tech. However borescopes, based on sophisticated and technologically advanced optical systems, are frequently preferred for inspecting critical parts. Borescopic inspection (BI) becomes imperative when certain factors exist: Area to be inspected is difficult to access. BI probably isn't necessary for eg shallow holes in a manifold; but deep bores, cross holes or undercuts in the same manifold require BI to determine surface finish and other key characteristics.
