ALFA Laval's Eastbourne plant designs and manufactures positive rotary lobe displacement pumps. In line with Group strategy, it is adopting Six Sigma and 5S philosophies, supported by investment in for example a two-tier FMS incorporating a rail guided vehicle and a series of Mandelli 5 and Mandelli 7 HMCs to produce rotors, rotor cases and pump end covers; and a robot-based, flexible automation cell, replacing labour-intensive fettling and blending operations on rotor case inlet and outlet ports.
