HEXAGON had kick-started the project back in 2004, after running a rule over all its training services to ensure they measured up to the fast-changing needs of industry. This led on to joining forces with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) to roll out a nationwide accredited metrology training programme. The four-level, NPL-developed scheme, supported by other key industry partners such as Rolls Royce and Renishaw, was launched last September and is rapidly establishing itself as the national standard for measurement competency. The project has three primary aims: To push measurement skills higher up the general education agenda To match training provision to the specific needs of market sectors, clients and applications To make the necessary knowledge exchange easier to access and evaluate.
