The morning broke serenely, as mornings usually do in winter in this part of the world. The slight mist burning away in front of our eyes unveiled one of the most spectacular views in Africa, the Mulanje Crater (Fig. 44), part of the larger Mulanje massif covering 650 km~2 and the second highest mountain range in southern Africa after the Drakensberg. "What would you like to do today ? " Julian asked Hermann. "I would love to get into that forest over there surrounded by sheer cliffs, is there a wayinto that? perhaps we are lucky and we will find the elusive Pitthea neavei" was Hermann's reply.
