CARSONVILLE, Mich. —Interest in Michigan's Silurian A-1 Carbonate as a geologic target continues to grow, despite the disappointing or inconclusive results of the work by Devon Energy and others in 2012 and early 2013 in the Central Basin. One must look no further than the most recent weekly list of oil and gas drilling permit applications received and drilling permits issued by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality's Office of Oil, Gas & Minerals for evidence that the idea of finding commercial quantities of oil and natural gas with horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing has not lied on the vine.
