In this article, a design method for a broadband three-element quasi-Yagi antenna for indoor digital television (DTV) is presented. The antenna consists of a dipole fed by a coplanar strip (CPS) line, a rectangular patch-type director, and a ground reflector. The transition between a microstrip (MS) feed line and the CPS line is implemented on the CPS to match the input impedance of the antenna with a 75-Ω MS feed line. The impedance bandwidth is improved by appending a wide strip-type patch director at a location close to the dipole driver. The antenna size is reduced by using a half bow-tie-shaped dipole and reflector. The antenna is designed and optimized for operation in the terrestrial DTV band (470-806 MHz) and is fabricated on an FR4 substrate. Although, the antenna size (240 mm by 200 mm) corresponds only to 0.36λ_0 by 0.30λ_0 (λ_0; free space wavelength at 450 MHz), the experiment results show that the antenna has good performance, such as a wide impedance band of 450-848 MHz for a voltage standing wave ratio<2, a moderate gain of 3.5-4.6 dBi, and a high front-to-back ratio>10.4 dB.
