摘要

Old parts made good as new seem to make sense under any environmental agenda. Yet remanufacturers face a series of challenges-not least scepticism over product quality. The vehicle scrappage scheme in 2009 may have drawn consumers back into car showrooms, but for remanufacturers the news was not good. It not only reduced repair demand for vehicles more than 10 years old, but also consigned still useable parts to the crasher to end up as baled scrap. Even the scheme's eco credentials were open to argument. Though new cars generate lower emissions, recycling of older generation engines saves on raw materials.
