This spring Donald Carlin and I were reinvestigating the Finlay Farm northeast of the village of Pierrepont in St. Lawrence County, NY. This is a classic locality for scapolite (meionite). The original occurrence is a pit on the western slope of a ridge along Irish Settlement Road facing the house and barn (44°32'56"N, 74°59'42"W). Twenty years ago, this was grassy pasture; today it is wooded. Besides meionite, dark green diopside, nearly black tremolite, white albite, creamy white microcline, black schorl, quartz, pyrite, and calcite occur in calcite-filled veins that cut across the layering of the metasedimentary country rock.
