The most frequently encountered collectible minerals from Oregon have typically been zeolites found in a wide swat of the state, particularly from the counties of Grant, Malheur, Clackamas, Columbia and Wheeler. However, Oregon has also produced minerals from a small number of metal deposits, but these specimens are uncommonly seen in the average collection outside of specialized locality or species collections. The chance discovery of an A. W. Pinger cinnabar specimen (see figure 1), along with an unusual collectible envelope, or corner card (see figure 2), prompted this brief study of mercury minerals found in the Black Butte District of Lane County, Oregon.
