Fisher Sand & Gravel is a network of aggregate-producing properties and contract operations extending across nine northwestern states. It operates two hardrock quarries and 11 sand and gravel pits. In addition, Fisher Sand & Gravel has about 20 portable plants that perform contract crushing and screening services for other mines, quarries and coal-burning utilities. Equipment for Fisher Sand & Gravel operations is manufactured by General Steel & Supply. Both companies are subsidiaries of Fisher Industries. Fisher Sand & Gravel is General Steel & Supply's biggest customer. In fact, during 1993, specialized conveyors for the aggregate-producing company accounted for half of General Steel & Supply's 16 million dollars in income. One of the portable conveying units General Steel& Supply makes for Fisher Sand & Gravel is the Fisher 5-Pak. This is a mobile field-conveyor system that consists of five 17-m- (55-ft-) long conveyors. They are designed to stack on a custom-built, semitrailer chassis and travel as a compact, road-legal package.
