The Pine Creek underground tungsten mine in California will probably not be brought back into production before 1996, even though preparations for its reopening have begun. "The expectation is that some time, probably in the early part of next year, we would be in a position to want to do that," said Robert Bunting, president of Avocet Tungsten. "We have been sending people underground to do preliminary work. Should we want to start it up we could do that in about three to four months." Avocet Tungsten is part of Avocet Ventures. It has formed a new joint venture with Strategic Minerals to mine and process tungsten ore from Pine Creek.
