The latest results from drilling on Labrador's Voisey Bay nickel-copper deposit have elevated the property from a large deposit to a huge one, according to some Canadian minerals analysts. Also, Inco, the western world's largest nickel producer, signed an agreement with Diamond Fields Resources, Voisey Bay's owner, to acquire a 25 percent interest in the project. Together with a separate transaction, this will boost to 30 percent Inco's total direct and indirect interest in the project. One analyst estimates that Voisey Bay contains more than 1.8 Mt (4 billion lbs) of nickel. Another said that it possibly could contain as much 100 Mt (110 million st) of ore. Diamond Fields Resources is not ready to validate those claims. Instead, the company said that results from recent drilling suggest that there are "no blank windows or dead zones" in the rich ovoid, or wine-glass-shaped, deposit. Vancouver-based Diamond Fields said that 107 drill holes have been completed by three drilling rigs. However, assays from only two-thirds of them have been completed. Critical assays from the western extension are still needed.
