The Republican-controlled congress in Washington, DC has its new "Contract With America." The coal industry must have an agenda to match, said B.R. Brown, chairman and chief executive officer of the CONSOL Coal Group Co., CONSOL Inc. Speaking to the Ohio Section of SME, Brown said there are four issues the coal industry should choose for its agenda. The United States signed the Rio Treaty to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations. That treaty, Brown said, began a process that ultimately will turn over control of US energy policy to the United Nations.
