Guided by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) as a component of its National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) process, a task force of mining experts has produced a draft strategic plan for research needed to improve the occupational safety and health of miners. The NORA Mining Sector Council is an ongoing task force assembled by NIOSH. After two face-to-face meetings and a sequence of teleconferences, along with substantial reviews internal to NIOSH, the Mining Sector Council produced the National Mining Agenda. NIOSH has placed the plan on its website, where it is available for public scrutiny and comment: http://www.cdc.govioshora/ councils/.
