In the wake of a dismal first quarter that saw profits tumble 45 percent, mostly due to low demand for mining equipment, Caterpillar announced that it would close its tunnel boring machine (TBM) facility in Toronto, ON, Canada. Caterpillar acquired Lovat Inc. in 2008. The closure will result in the loss of 330 jobs at the plant.
