Holnam said it is planning to build a 4-Mt/a (4.4-million stpy) cement plant at Lee Island, MO. The plant will produce primarily type one cement for highway construction, water projects and other general infrastructure.The Lee Island site is about 80 km (50 miles) southeast of St. Louis. It has enough limestone reserves for about 100 years. Holnam said. Located on the Mississippi River, the new operation will have a terminal on the river. This will enable the operation to supply a regional market of 40 Mt (44 million st) at a low distribution cost. About 80 percent of the plant's production will be shipped by barge. The remaining 20 percent will be shipped by road and rail.
