摘要

The United States is becoming more reliant on foreign sources for raw and processed mineral materials, according to a report by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). And the National Mining Association (NMA) believes that trend will continue until the nation adopts less restrictive regulations regarding mining. In its Minerals Commodity Summary 2005 report, the USGS said that imports of raw and processed mineral materials increased by 30 percent in 2004 from 2003. The value of those materials was about 66 billion dollars. The largest imports, in terms of value, were aluminum, copper and steel, the report said.
