The Richards Bay coal terminal in South Africa has received the necessary funding to expand the terminal to 92 Mt/a (101 million stpy). Its current capacity is 72 Mt/a (79 million stpy). And, in another terminal expansion move, the government of Queensland, Australia announced that it will expand the Abbott Point coal terminal. The R1-billion loan to Richards Bay will come from an unnamed bank. It will be underwritten by the Richards Bay partners. They include BHP Billiton, Anglo American and Xstrata.
