Minera Escondida began copper cathode production in June at its lowgrade sulfides leaching project in Chile. The project is located next to the company's openpit mine about 160 km (100 miles) southeast of Antofagasta. Minera Escondida is a joint venture between BHP Billiton (57.5 percent), Rio Tinto (30 percent), Jeco Corp. (10 percent) and the International Finance Corp. arm of the World Bank (2.5 percent).
