Prime Meridian Resources of Calgary, Alberta, Canada announced that it will conduct exploratory drilling near the spot in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where Kennecott Minerals wants to mine copper and nickel. Prime Meridian Resources said it would begin work in March after a drilling rig arrives. The company has been pinpointing target locations since January 2000. Some of the spots identified are within 3 km (2 miles) of the deposits Kennecott plans to mine in the Yellow Dog Plains area of Marquette County.
