CAMECO RESOURCES' North Butte Mine in Wright, WY began production on May 13 and could account for a substantial portion of the state's uranium production within two years. The mine is part of a larger effort to expand uranium operations by Cameco Corp., the parent company of Cameco Resources. Two more mines are planned in Wyoming and three in Nebraska over the next few years despite weak prices. Uranium prices are about $40/lb, down from about $70/lb just before the Fukushima, Japan, nuclear disaster two years ago, reviving fears about nuclear energy as a safe power source.
