Plans have begun for this year's Minerals Education Coalition (MEC) booth at 2001 National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Area Conventions. Free literature, rocks, minerals, videotapes and other valuable earth science educational materials will be distributed to about 1,500 teachers at each convention.This years, financial support for exhibit-space rental, exhibitor services and other expenses came from a variety of sources. SME, the Coal Division of SME, the National Mining Association and the Coper Development Association provided funding for the booth. Many organizations in the Minerals Education Coalition, a group of associations involved in the minerals industry, will also donate literature. In the past, Caterpillar, Placer Dome, Women in Mining Education Foundation, the American Coal Foundation, the National Mining Association, the Gypsum Association, the Gold Institute and others have provide free materials for teachers. The Minerals Education Coalition sincerely appreciates the support provided by mining companies and organizations.
