Inco shipped the first concentrates in November from, its long-awaited Voisey's Bay nickel-copper-cobalt mine in Labrador. The company said Voisey's Bay production will be a large part of its plan to increase nickel production by 35 percent by 2009. Inco said nickel production at Voisey's Bay is expected to be 50 kt (55,000 stpy) during 2006. During its 30-year life, the mine is projected to produce 50 kt/ (55,000 stpy) of nickel, 38.6 kt/a (42,550 stpy) of copper and 2.27 kt/a (2,500 stpy) of cobalt.
