The Newcastle Mines Rescue Station has launched its virtual reality mine safety training facility at Argenton, near Lake Macquarie. The School of Mining Engineering at the University of NSW developed the facility for Coal Services (CSPL). CSPL is jointly owned by the NSW Minerals Council (NSWMC) and the CFMEU. The chief executive of the NSWMC, Dr Nikki Williams, said the training centre showed the benefits of an 'all of industry' approach and commitment to mine safety. "This is a superb example of companies working together with unions and the research community to ensure that we achieve our primary objective - namely the safe return of every miner from every shift," she said.
