The mining industry has made major advances in the past decade in project development around the world. However, until all mining companies pay scrupulous attention to the triple bottom line of economic, social and environmental value, theindustry will continue to face the emotional resistance that seems to characterize the announcement of a new mineral discovery.At Rio Algom, we are convinced that profitable mining can go hand in hand with social and environmental advances. And we believe mining's future depends on it. The challenge for the industry is to join as visible, vocal proponents of sustainabledevelopment, inside our companies and industry, as well as outside in the public arena. Let us collectively raise the bar to improve the perception of mining around the world.
