摘要

ON NOV. 5, TWO dams at the Samarco iron ore mine in Minas Gerais, Brazil failed, sending millions of gallons of mine tailings into the valley below. At press time, at least 11 people had been killed, fresh water supplies to an estimated 260,000 people had been cut off, two villages had been buried by the tailings and more than a dozen people were still missing.
