The Minerals Education Coalition's (MEC) mission is to develop and deliver K-12 educational materials and activities and to conduct public awareness outreach about the importance of mining and minerals in everyday life. To enhance its national and international outreach, MEC supports SME Local Sections and encourages local outreach efforts. National MEC can assist SME sections in creating MEC subcommittees or support existing MEC subcommittees in conducting local and community outreach. The MEC website, www.mineralseducationcoalition.org , provides free, downloadable resources for all local sections, including PowerPoint presentations and handouts. Educational posters can be purchased at a discounted rate. Contact Rachel Grimes at grimes@smenet.org or 303-948-4247.
