Comminution - what a great catch-all word - is an umbrella word for all liberation in the world of mineral processing. Where would mineral processors be without liberation in front of separation? I'll not bore you with the many references on how much energy is consumed worldwide for purposes of making little rocks out of big rocks - the number is huge. And then we have to quickly consider that the importance of comminution (hence cost, social license perceptions and more) is going up, as orebodies are generally lower grade, deeper, more remote and the mineralogy more complex than in the past. And, of course, there is today's undeniable challenge of prolonged low commodity prices.
