Noranda reported that the Antamina Mine in Peru sent its first shipment of zinc concentrates in November. Antamina reported that 30 kt (33,000 st) of concentrates left the mine bound for Japan and Korea. In December, the mine was expected to ship between 50 kt and 60 kt (55,000 and 66,000 st) to Europe, Japan and Korea.The mine is jointly owned by Noranda and BHP Billiton (33.75 percent each), Teck Cominco (22.5 percent) and Mitsubishi (10 percent). It began commercial production in October 2001, about four months ahead of schedule.
