The Robert Peele Memorial Award is presented to Glen L. Black for his paper "Gold Hunter Deep: From Prospect to Production" published in Mining Engineering, April 1999. The Robert Peele Memorial Award is given for the best mining or exploration paper published by SME within a designated period by a member not over the age of 35.Black began his mining career as a summer student at Asarco's Blackcloud Mine in Leadville, CO. He graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in 1987 with a B.S. in mining engineering. Upon graduation, he went to work at Asarco's Galena Mine in Wallace, ID. He then joined Morrison Knudsen (MK). He worked at the corporate office in Boise, ID and at Copperstone, a Cyprus-owned openpit gold mine near Parker AZ. MK bought the company that owned the American Girl Mine and he transferred to the American Girl near Yuma, AZ. On really hot days, when coming out the decline, the air blew at 49 deg C (120 deg F). He returned to Asarco's Blackcloud mine in Leadville, CO - change in altitude of almost 3,050 m (10,000 ft).
