摘要

Some major players in the global mining industry offered their support for a proposal for natural resource companies to make public all taxes, fees and other payments they make to developing countries in which they operate. The "Publish What You Pay" proposal was made by British Prime Minister Tony Blair at the United Nations World Summit on Sustainable Development in September in Johannesburg, South Africa. The summit attracted more than 40,000 delegates and about 100 heads of state. Among the delegates were several mining industry chief executives. The goal of the summit was to find ways to halve global poverty by 2015 while promoting environmental advances in clean water, nonpolluting energy, better health care, sustainable agriculture and preserving biodiversity.
