NovAtel provides global positioning system (GPS) and augmentation technologies for a range of industries, including mining. In May, NovAtel expanded its market when the Calgary, Alberta-based company acquired the CMC Electronics' nonaviation GPS original equipment manufacturer (OEM) product line. NovAtel's new product line will extend its current, high-performance, upgradable l1 and dual-frequency (L1/L2) product line into the mid-L1 market. This will increase NovAtel's market in its core segments. It will also allow the company to enter new vertical markets. NovAtel has been trying to enter the single-frequency market, said Jon Ladd, the company's president and chief executive officer. "The acquisition of CMC Electronics' non-aviation GPS OEM product line was an ideal solution because it immediately brings to NovAtel proven L1 products," he said, as well as an established customer base. The company enhances CMC Electronics' products and blends them with NovAtel's product line.
