Outokumpu made some moves in recent months that will allow the company to exit the base and precious metals mining industry. Divesting itself of its mining operations will allow Outokumpu to focus on its stainless steel businesses and increase its presence in the value-added products market, the company said. The most recent deal occurred in September when the Finnish company made a deal with Sweden's Boliden to transfer its zinc-copper mining and smelting operations to Boliden in exchange for Boliden's copper fabrication units in Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. In addition, Outokumpu will receive a 49 percent stake in Boliden now called New Boliden - 414 million US dollars in cash and 62.2 million US dollars in subordinated vendor notes.
