British Columbia's only mining engineering program received a 7.5-million dollars gift that will significantly increase its capacity for education and research. A major donation fromTeck Comin-co, plus contributions from the company's partners, will create the Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC). The donation honors the company's former president and chief executive officer (CEO). Keevil is a member of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame and received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from UBC. He joined the company in 1962 and became president and CEO in 1981. He currently serves as chairman.
