In April 2006, the Colorado Section of SME was invited to participate in the Colorado Science and Engineering Fair (CSEF). The fair was held at the Colorado State University in Fort Collins. The team of judges from the Colorado Section and GEM subsection reviewed all of the 2006 projects in the categories of math, microchemistry, environmental science and earth/space science. The team narrowed the list of prospects to those that related to some aspect of the minerals industry and could represent us through the Special Award (Organization Award) category. As we walked the floor, we added a few other projects that looked interesting. We evaluated, discussed and finally chose the projects that best represented the Colorado Section of SME.
