The price of oil was hovering around 135 dollars/bbl as this was written in mid-June. The price of a gallon of gasoline in the United States cracked the 4 dollars mark. Now, that is not as bad as what Europeans are paying - 10 dollars and above in many countries - but Americans are angry. Surprisingly, though, they are not as angry at Big Oil as you would think. A May Gallup Poll reported that only 20 percent of the public blamed oil companies for the steep rise in gasoline prices, according to the Wall Street Journal. However, Sen. Barack Obama is angry with the oil companies, as is the Democratic-controlled Congress, environmental groups and other nongovernmental organizations.
