Alexander Murray (Bud) Wilson was a mining man and a very good one. He became manager of the mining division of Utah Construction & Mining in 1960. In 1971, he became president of the company, which was to become Utah International, and chief executive officer in 1978. When General Electric (GE) and later Australia's BHP acquired Utah International, Wilson quickly established close working relationships with senior management of both companies and continued to lead the company in its growth and diversification. At the time of the GE acquisition in 1976, Utah International was the most profitable. And in stock market capitalization, it was the most valuable mining company headquartered in the United States.
