John L. Uhrie is the recipient of the Mineral and Metallurgical Processing Division Outstanding Young Engineer Award in recognition of his significant contributions as a young individual within the Mineral Processing/Extractive discipline. Uhrie is currently principal engineer with the Phelps Dodge Process Technology Center. He holds degrees in geological engineering, geology and metallurgical engineering from the University of Wyoming and Michigan Tech. Upon completing his Ph.D., he joined Phelps Dodge Mining's newly formed Process Technology Center, then based in Morenci, AZ. Uhrie was instrumental in the reestablishment of the laboratories and their research efforts.
