Teachers practice edible geology and concrete paving at minerals education workshop

Cheyenne High School in Las Vegas, NV was the site of the 14th annual Clark County Minerals Education Workshop. Approximately 100 teachers and 35 volunteers gathered at the Nevada high school during their 2003 spring break. Since the annual workshops began in 1990, more than 2,000 teachers from Nevada, California, Arizona and Utah have participated in the two-day event. The workshops are a combined effort of the Nevada Mining Association (NvMA) and the Nevada Division of Minerals. The workshops are closely coordinated to lessons taught in the current curriculum, so it is a simple matter to adapt activities to classroom use. And thanks to the many supporters from industry, the teachers g back to school with goodie bags full of equipment and information to enhance their presentations.
