In an effort to gain more control over its iron ore industry, the Chinese government is considering cutting the number of importers by more than half. The China Iron and Steel Association (CiSA) and the Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals and Chemicals Importers and Exporters (CCMMC) are two of China's leading trade associations. They want to promote long-term iron ore contracts and reduce the number of importers. That would reduce the amount of iron ore reaching energy-intensive, polluting mills that the Chinese government wants to close, the associations said in a statement.
