As exploration spreads through Canada, so does conflict between the mining industry and aboriginal communities. Hans Matthews of the Canadian Aboriginal Minerals Association said the industry should prepare itself for more such clashes in the coming years. He spoke at the 2007 Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada Conference in Toronto. The conference drew more than 16,000 mining industry professionals. He warned that more aboriginal communities will be seeking to block mining exploration and development, pending settlements of their backlogged land claims.
