The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) requires that the licensure examinations for professional engineers be periodically reviewed and updated. NCEES has asked SME to prepare a new Professional Activities and Knowledge Study (PAKS) for the Mining/Minerals (M/M) P.E. examination. The last M/M PAKS was completed in 2000. A task force from the SME P.E. Exam Committee met with NCEES representatives in Denver on Oct. 3,2007 to begin working on the new PAKS. A key component of this effort is the preparation of a survey to be completed by professional engineers involved in all aspects of the mining and minerals industry. It is important that as many professional engineers as possible complete this survey, as it is the foundation of the exam specification that will be used for the next eight to 10 years.
