The Young Leaders Com-mittee would like to intro-duce its five new committee members for 2008. Of the 12 young members who applied to SME, five were selected to become Young Leaders. Those who are chosen for committee membership agree to a four-year commitment in the program.The Young Leaders Commit-tee was created in 2002. It is the task of the committee to implement programs and services relevant to younger professionals and students in the industry. SME has created this program to help equip young professionals with the tools they need for success in SME and in the mining profession. SME depends on the development of qualified, capable individuals who have the vision and dedication to lead the society in this new century. One of the objectives of the Young Leaders program is to increase the involve-ment of young professionals within the society. The other is to present professional-development pro-grams for the society as a whole.
