On May 21,2012, the day before the International Conference on Acid Rock Drainage (ICARD) in Ottawa, ON, Canada, many members of the SME Environmental Division met in an international symposium to address the challenges of mine-impacted waters. They were invited to participate due to their considerable knowledge and experience in preventing, mitigating and treating these discharges. The International Network for Acid Prevention (INAP), an organization of international mining companies, and the Global Alliance (GA), a group of regional organizations committed to preventing acid rock drainage (ARD), hosted the symposium.
