Tunnel boring operations that began in 2007 and have run consistently since then as part of New York's Metro Transit Authorities (MTA) projects concluded on June 23, when the last of the tunnel boring machines (TBM) completed its work beneath the streets of Manhattan. Molina, the TBM digging the fourth of four East Side Access tunnels in Queens, came to a halt 2 m (6 ft) underneath the LIRR Main Line in Long Island City, completing its run. The milestone marks the end of tunnel boring for the East Side Access project as well as for all MTA megaprojects.
