In June the Quarry Products Association Showcase 2005 included the Restoration Awards, a scheme now in its 35th year. Eight submissions were received by the QPA, and each won an award; this year a new Chairman's Trophy for outstanding achievement was introduced. The Cooper Heyman Cup was awarded to Brett Aggregates for its Church Lammas Quarry in Surrey. The project was undertaken in partnership with Surrey CC, Spelthorne BC and the Fieldfare Trust. While the original quarry was restored a few years ago, the partners have undertaken a pilot research project to identify ways in which restoration can benefit disabled people. The Chairman's Trophy went to CEMEX UK Operations and the Suffolk Wildlife Trust for their Laekford Lakes project, near Bury St Edmunds.
