Modification of planning conditions at Priors Hall Quarry by Corby Developments Ltd was approved by Northamptonshire CC in July. The proposals would extract clay and 1.2Mt of limestone. The site is covered by a Ministerial planning permission granted in 1953 which allowed the extraction of ironstone and any mineral above the ironstone for use by the iron and steel industry based in Corby; limestone and clay therefore can be worked. The site has remained dormant although it could have been worked if regarded as economically viable. In 1997 an application was submitted for the approval of modern planning conditions at the Priors Hall site. This application was subsequently granted and currently forms the planning permission for the site, allowing it to be worked until 2042.
